Quick guide:  Copying Textbook Information

Last update:  24 April 2013  -- 8:00pm

These quick guides are based on the "simulation environment". These "quick guides" are produced quickly with little attention to formatting and fitting everything on a letter size page for printing.  More elaborate guides will be made available at a later point. These guides are meant to get you started -- following an introductory hands-on session.  Or, for the more adventurous,  to guide self-study.

This particular guide is an addendum to the more basic guides (for both "super users" and individual faculty) about entering textbook information from scratch. This guide assumes you have already entered the textbook information for  either
  • one section of a current class or
  • a class/section in a previous term
and the information for the current section is either the same or would need only minor adjustments.

Unfortunately, using this feature via "Faculty Center" without having 'super user' rights currently leads to an error message. We have notified Central about the problem and hope that they will have it fixed soon.

Let us we have finish textbook for one section:

Now we are moving to section where we want to same information to be displayed. We start with the clicking the "copy textbooks" button, and the first thing we get is a warning, which we can safely ignore if there is nothing to overwrite in the first place.

We get a  search page (partially filled with "Institution" and "Term"), but we need to select  "Subject" and "Course Number". Don't forget the extra two zeros at the end, if your class only had three digits in the old system (SIMS).

In this case, I get the two sections I teach.  If you are using the "super user" path you  will get all sections of  the class.  Now,  you need to select the "source" (where the textbook  information) is already entered:

And the information from the "source" class/section is copied over.

Make sure that
