y THE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT HOMEPAGE is located on the world wide web at the following URL address:
http://maxweber.hunter.cuny.edu/psych

You are here now, but if you want to remember where you were, you
should write this down or bookmark this site.

SOME PSYCHOLOGY PROFESSORS also have their own
homepages, which can be reached by going the FACULTY section.

y psych-l (that’s lower-case "l" as in lemon, not "one") is the Psychology Department On-line Information and Discussion List. To subscribe, all you need is an e-mail account, and every student at Hunter has a free one. This list is intended for everyone in any way involved with the Psychology Department at Hunter: majors, minors, faculty, administrative staff of the College, alumni...and everyone else.

I (Bonnie Seegmiller) set up this list to increase communication about the going’s-on in Hunter’s Psych Dept., specifically, and in Psychology and related fields, more generally. Keep informed (and join in the discussion if you wish) about events sponsored by the Psychology Advising Office, such as meetings for new and "old" majors which provide an orientation to the Psychology Department; meetings about graduate school; and meetings about careers in psychology and related fields. Hear about events sponsored by organizations such as the Psychology Club and Psi Chi (e.g., bake sales; guest speakers, field trips, the Annual Convention), and by the Biopsychology Program (e.g., colloquia). And, importantly, get valuable information first about issues such as registration, added and dropped courses, and "Last Semester Free."  Advertise your textbooks for sale.  In addition, exchange information and ideas about what’s currently of concern to psychology, e.g., job positions, research assistantships, internships, scholarships, fellowships, books for sale, movies and books of psychological interest, topics such as "genital mutilation"/"female circumcision," antidepressants, domestic violence, therapy, parent-child interactions, social behavior in ants, immigration and stress, homelessness, and so on. psych-l has unlimited potential; it can become whatever we want it to become.

Here’s how to subscribe to (i e., join) psych-l

( "Subscribing" to a list (in computer-talk) simply means signing up; there is absolutely no cost to you; it’s totally free! "Subscribing" means you will get all messages posted on the list, and you can contribute messages yourself that will be distributed to all subscribers. .In other words, you’ll be able to join in. Add, you can cancel your subscription whenever you want ).

1. Log on to your e-mail account. (If you don’t know how to do this, look at the ACS instructions available in the Bookstore, or stop in at the Reading/Writing Center Computer Lab, fourth  floor, TH). In the following instructions, DO NOT actually type in < >

2. Send an e-mail message to <majordomo@shiva.hunter.cuny.edu>

3. Depending on the e-mail system you’re using, if it asks for your name, hit <ENTER>  (or <TAB>; i.e., leave the line blank)

4. If it asks for the subject, hit <ENTER>  (or <TAB>; i.e., leave the line blank)

5. In the body of the message, type only <subscribe psych-l>
Remember that’s l as in lemon, not a number one. It all has to be typed in lower-case letters.

6. SEND the message.

You will receive confirmation of your successfully having joined the list, along with instructions about how you too can interact with the list, and you will begin to receive all messages posted to the list.
