THE OLD AND THE NEW PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR CURRICULA
MINORS FOR PSYCHOLOGY MAJORS
IN ADDITION TO COMPLETING THE OLD OR NEW PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR REQUIREMENTS AS EXPLAINED BELOW, 
ALL PSYCHOLOGY MAJORS MUST ALSO COMPLETE A MINOR WHICH CONSISTS OF 
AT LEAST 4 COURSES AND A MINIMUM OF 12 CREDITS
IN ONLY ONE  OTHER  DEPARTMENT OF THE COLLEGE.
**SPLIT MINORS ARE NOT PERMITTED
(for majors who declared their major after August, 1998)
and 
**Minoring in some departments such as Chemistry
requires more than this minimum
All minors must be approved by the Psychology Advising Office
All students taking psychology courses: 
BEFORE ENROLLING IN PSYCH 248
ALL  STUDENTS MUST HAVE RECEIVED 
A GRADE OF C- OR BETTER IN STAT 113, MATH 120 OR THE EQUIVALENT 
AND
BEFORE TAKING COURSES ABOVE PSYCH 250
ALL STUDENTS  MUST HAVE COMPLETED 
Psychological Statistics (with a minimum grade of C-)
AND Experimental Psychology
 
TO DETERMINE YOUR MAJOR REQUIREMENTS: 
IF
You declared your Psychology Major at Hunter BEFORE August, 1996
 or 
You had completed more than 30 credits by August, 1996,  
AND
You declared your Psychology Major at Hunter 
between August, 1996 and December, 1997
THEN
YOU HAVE YOUR CHOICE: 
You may follow either the NEW or the OLD Psychology Major 
Curriculum Requirements.

You declared your Psychology Major at Hunter AFTER December, 1997
or
You had completed 30 or fewer credits 
before the beginning of the Fall, 1996 semester

You MUST follow the NEW Psychology Major

*You must complete 3 credits in college-level Mathematics with a minimum grade of C- or CR. before enrolling in PSYCH 248 (Psychological Statistics).  This requirement should be met by either STAT 113 (which meets  Math and Science Distribution Requirements) or by MATH 120  (which does not).  Or, you may pass the equivalent of Pre-Calculus on the Special Placement Test (Contact the Dolciani Math Learning Center, 3rd Floor HN, for the exam schedule and information about the test). 

**You must complete Psychological Statistics, PSYCH 248 (with a minimal grade of C-), AND Experimental Psychology (PSYCH 249 or PSYCH 250) BEFORE you enroll in  any psychology course numbered above PSYCH 250, 
    & 
    You must complete ENGL 120 with a grade of C or CR before enrollling in any psychology course numbered above PSYCH 248. 

 
 
 
 
NEW PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR 
REQUIREMENTS
TO DECLARE A PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR: 

       -One semester college-level math, with a minimum grade of C- or Credit (Stat 113 or  
        Math 120, OR THE EQUIVALENT)
       -Minimum grade of B in any 100-level Psychology course. 
 
    (*Transfer students may meet these requirements with courses taken at the previous  
       institution(s), upon presentation of a transcript from that institution. Second degree  
       students must consult with an Advisor to learn which of the new requirements are  
       applicable in their special case.) 
 

TO COMPLETE A PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR: 

-REQUIRED BUT NOT CREDITED TOWARD THE MAJOR; THESE TWO  
   COURSES MAY BE USED TO SATISFY DISTRIBUTION REQUIREMENTS 
        -PSYCH 100, 
            AND 
       -One other 100-level Psychology Course  
 

 -THE 26-CREDIT PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR CONSISTS OF THE  
    FOLLOWING 8 COURSES:
