As part of the governance of the Department of Psychology,
a number of important committees include both faculty members and declared
Psychology Majors. These committees play an important role in making recommendations
on matters related to the program of the Department. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED
IN SERVING ON ANY OF THESE COMMITTEES, PLEASE COME BY THE PSYCHOLOGY OFFICE
AND SPEAK TO THE UNDERGRADUATE ADVISORS. The following committees welcome
Psychology Majors to serve as voting representatives:
Divisional
Committee on Curriculum: reviews departmentally initiated proposals
or may initiate their own proposals for programs or curriculum changes,
submitting such proposals for consideration to the appropriate Senate Committee
on Course of Study.
Evening
Session Council: recommends improvements in the supporting services
during the evening hours, provides the Administrative Committee of the
College Senate with agenda items of concern to the Evening Session, organizes
its student membership in filling the 12 at-large seats on the Senate for
Evening Session students, and identifies, reviews, and gives focus to matters
of interest to the Evening Session.
Policy
Committee of the Department: reviews the adequacy of departmental governance
and initiates proposals to the faculty for change if deemed necessary.
Undergraduate
Curriculum Committee: reviews and initiates curriculum proposals.
Departmental
Facilities and Services Committee: reviews and initiates proposals
regarding faculty and student support facilities and services that are
within or closely related to the department's domain and responsibilities.
Undergraduate
Career Advisement Committee: reviews and initiates proposals regarding
the advisement of students regarding graduate schools, student club activities,
career opportunities, etc.
Departmental
Grade Appeals Committee: The Grade Appeal Guidelines approved by the
Hunter College Senate provide the appellant with the option of choosing
a student as a third member of the Appeals Committee in place of a faculty
member. Majors interested in serving on this committee should notify the
Department.
The two major professional organizations in the profession
of Psychology accept student affiliates. Write to them for information
(about joining, and about careers in psychology). For example, from
the APA site, you may download "Psychology: Careers for the 21st
Century."
