Homework Assignment #8 (due Dec 15 at class time)

1. [10 points + 10 additional bonus points]
Do at least 10 multiple choice questions selected from the following list of 20 (all question and page numbers refer to the Study Guide):

• #1-6, 10, 11 from chapter 7 (p.125-128)
• #2-5, 7-10 from chapter 8 (p.145-148)
• #1-4 from chapter 9 (p.167-168)

Submit the relevant pages (or copies thereof) from the Study Guide. Mark the correct answer and provide a brief explanation of your selection. Each correct answer gives you one point. No points without sufficient explanation.

Note that the study guide does provide the correct answers - and, in contrast to earlier chapters, I found no obvious mistakes in the answers though one can argue about the best possible answer for some of the questions. I strongly suggest that you try to answer these questions without looking at the solutions first. Do review the relevant pages of the main textbook - given in [ ] for each question - when you are unsure about an answer. Otherwise, you deprive yourself of a great opportunity to get prepared for the final exam.

We will discuss the answers to these questions in the review session on December 15.

Final Exam Format

The final exam will consist of two parts:

• 16 multiple choice questions covering chapters 7-9 similar to the ones you see on this homework assignment. For each question you get 5 points for the correct choice. You may give a brief explanation of your selection. Contingent upon your argument, you can get between 1 and 4 points even you marked an answer other than the "correct" one. This is to reward student who have a good point, but one that is just somewhat different from the train of thought the question writer had anticipated. - The maximum for this part, then, will be 80 points.
• A "short essay" choosing one of two questions; one outlining the problem of doing field research in a particular field to be assigned (like -- but not identical to -- question #4 on page 165 of the Study Guide), the other analyzing and discussing a particular experimental study (like problem 1 of homework assignment #7). Your discussion should be about 2 pages in length (depending on handwriting) in the exam booklet. You can earn up to 30 points for this part.

The maximum numbers of points will be 110. Letter grades will be assigned as follows: 100+ = A+ , 90+ = A, 80+ = B, 70+ = C, 60+ = D, below 60 = F.
