Final Exam Review

Congress Fall 1997

 

This is in addition to the material listed in your midterm review sheet. Meaning, final exam questions will come from this sheet, and the midterm review sheet. If you did not get a copy of the midterm review sheet it can be obtained at http://maxweber.hunter.cuny.edu/eres/

 

Format and length of the final will be the same as the midterm.

 

Identification (6 points each for a total of 30 points)—Identify 5 of the 7 terms. Tell me what the term means, and why it is important. Answer only five. If you answer more than five, only the first five will be graded.

 

I will choose 7 terms for the final exam from the 35 terms I have provided you on the midterm and final review sheets.

Essay (each essay worth 35 points for a total of 70 points)—answer any 2 of the following 3 questions. Only answer two questions. If you answer more than two questions, only the first two will be graded. Refer to the readings when possible.

  1. Why do members organize their chambers through party organizations?

  3. What powers do presidents have to bargain with Congress? Do these powers give the president the upperhand in bargaining with Congress? Explain your asnwer.

  5. Are members’ vote decisions based on political contributions? If yes, explain why members are beholden to interest groups. If no, then explain why interest groups give money to members of Congress?

  7. How has Congress attempted to regulate lobbying? Have they been successful? Why or why not?
