Many students have questions about the psychology major. The Psychology Department Major Handbook, 1994 has just been made available to students and has the answers to many questions that plague psychology majors and those planning for the major. If you haven't already done so, stop by and pick up your copy at the Psychology Department in room 611 HN. And if you thought it couldn't get any better, think again - IT'S FREE!
I spoke to Dr. Seegmiller (Psychology Department Advisor) about the handbook and what she, with the help of advising assistants Dorline Yee, Mary Woods and Fran De Vera, wanted to do for psychology majors. The new and improved handbook is just the start of things to come.
The handbook has sections containing information on what is in the Psychology Department Office, resources available to you (through the library and the advising office), declaring a major and curriculum requirements, research and internships, graduate school, student activities, and much more.
Dr. Seegmiller and her team want to let Psych majors know that they are aware of the questions and problems facing us, and that they are working overtime to compile and make available to us information that will help pave the way - not only through Hunter College, but also after graduation.
The Psychology Department Major Handbook may answer some of your questions, but for the remaining questions, the advising office would like to remind you that they are available throughout the semester. Check the hours in the Psychology Department and come in to speak to an advisor.
Try not to wait until you have a serious problem before seeking the assistance of the advising staff. It may help if you prepare a list of questions or options you would like to explore.
Remember - help is there for the asking.
