Welcome back for Fall Semester! We have a full slate of activities that will be planned for this coming year, any and all of which will benefit considerably from YOUR participation! Last year, the range of events planned by the Psychology Club ran from the frivolous and relaxed (several student-faculty socials) to the extremely informative and insightful (many guest speakers on research and career opportunities). In addition, the Psychology Convention held in April here at Hunter attracted more than 350 attendees, including Psychology majors, parents alumni, and others from the Hunter community with an interest in all things psychological. This year, we expect to hold even more events, and are forming committees now (as you read this), so if you think you might be interested in helping shape what we do, please leave a message in the Psychology Club's mailbox in the Psych Department office (room 611 HN). The only requirement for helping out is interest--It's a great way to meet with other Psychology majors sharing similar interests, form support groups for career development, and learn about new opportunities in research and careers. Among the committees not seeking assistance are:
.
Social events: help plan those student-faculty socials. Think of psychology-related entertainment (you know, "mind games..."). See the faculty in from of a bar instead of a blackboard....
Career events: invite speakers from a range of occupational fields in which psychology is applied. Amaze your friends. Help find a job...for them or for you!
Current debates and research in psychology: arrange forums or speakers who will address current hot topics in the field, ranging from the IQ debate to cross-cultural issues to research programs active here at Hunter College. Get a research assistantship out of this--looks good on a resume!
Membership/organizational assistance: the club is becoming so large that we could use a few good men and women to help contact members for upcoming events so that you need never miss out on anything.
1996 Hunter Psychology Convention: after the success of last year's convention, we decided to do it again...and this time to make it even bigger by getting more students involved. The event will be held in April 1997, but if you are interested in helping out now in the planning stages, leave word in the Psych Club mailbox.
