ERes access via AOL
The current ERes manager has no direct experience with AOL , but he
has received many complaints from AOL users that they were unable to access
ERes. A computer savvy student in one of my classes, Erika Papendorf,
put together a detailed "how to" list in the fall of 1997. I trust, that
her instructions still apply.
Please, make sure that you are using the recent version of the
AOL software (version 3.0 or higher). If you have an old browser, you can
download the recent version by going to AOL's "member services". But, let's
assume you have the current software.
To access ERes course pages from America Online:
-
Using America Online version 3.0 for either Windows 3.1 or Windows 95,
click on the keyword icon.
-
This will bring up a box asking you to enter the keyword you are looking
for.
-
Enter http://maxweber.hunter.cuny.edu/eres (be sure not to enter any spaces
or other characters, and no period at the end).
-
Enter the course number, and click search.
-
You should be taken to the ERes page that asks you if you accept the terms.
Scroll down and click I accept.
-
You should then be taken to the course home page.
Possible Problems
-
The address was entered incorrectly. Be sure to check and double
check the address.
-
Be sure to type in http:// first, and make sure that it is a regular slash
(/) and not a backslash (\).
-
The window containing the page may be hidden. To be sure it is not,
go to the file menu and highlight WINDOW. Scroll down and check to
see if the class page is listed, and if it is checked. It should
read ERes: Course xxxx
-
America Online may be keeping an old history of the course page that for
some reason did not load properly. To clear the history, click on
preferences in the web page menu, then click on the navigation tab, then
click on clear history. After doing this, close the page and redo
the above steps to open a fresh version of the page.
