In addition to any system you might put in place, you might create some positive peer pressure by having a system that gives more points for easier days (for you). One days when you're really proud of the class' behavior, drop in 3 marbles into a jar. One days where you had to make a few reminders and troubleshoot a bit, drop in 2 marbles and encourage better behavior tomorrow (don't focus on what went wrong). Ask them what they need to work on to get 3 marbles. 1 marble is given on tough days (never go to zero---I'm sure some of your kids behaved at certain points and that deserves recognition. When you can run a ruler across the top of the jar and knock a marble onto the desk/floor, they earn a priviledge/reward. Make the jar bigger as the year goes on so that external reward are "faded out". If not a marble jar, think of some other reward system in addition to your classroom disciplinary policies. |
