Louise Lennihan - Ethnographic Fieldwork in Nigeria

Louise Lennihan has been conducting research in northern Nigeria since 1977. Her initial research concerned regional agrarian change in Zaria Emirate for the period from 1880 through the late 1970s. Her most research focuses on the period following the collapse of Nigeria's economy and effects of Nigeria's structural adjustment policy (SAP) on the agrarian life. She spent a year in Nigeria in 1996 collecting data for a book on social decomposition under SAP. Here she is pictured with the wife of her research assistant who is a student at Ahmadu Bello University.
