Richard Bergl - Primatological Fieldwork in Nigeria

This photo was taken at the confluence of the Odi and Asachi rivers in Cross River National Park, Cross River State, Nigeria. I was travelling in Nigeria with Dr. John Oates looking for gorillas and potential research sites. My research interests are the ecology and conservation of African primates. I am particularly interested in the bushmeat trade and how it effects primates and the gorillas of the the Nigeria-Cameroon border area. I have travelled and done field work in both East and West Africa (where I have also spent a night in jail). I am also involved with molecular genetic research and hope to be able to apply molecular techniques to primate conservation.
